God’s Word and Growth

It’s hard to believe we just finished up our final weekend of Biblical Counseling Training at the Green Pond Campus. We were delighted to be able to provide this training for many reasons, but mostly because the Word of God, and a church’s understanding of it, is critical to the health and life of the body. The Bible is where God has spoken to us and revealed Himself, it is God’s very Word that brings new life in the power of the gospel of Jesus, and it gives us wisdom in living our daily lives for His glory.

We are also pleased to provide ways for the body to study, discuss, pray over, and live out God’s word. Look briefly at these four ways with me, each with a little challenge.

  • We study God’s Word together corporately on Sunday mornings as we are walking through 1 Peter – verse by verse, chapter by chapter. We have seen, and will see the ways God is challenging us about being Christian in a world that isn’t. Challenge: Is sitting under the regular corporate teaching of God’s word a priority in your life?
  • We also study God’s Word together in smaller groups, such as Bible Studies for men and women, small groups in Youth Group and our Care Groups as we talk about how to live out the content of the sermon passage. Challenge: Are you involved in a small group in community with others as you seek to live out God’s word?
  • We counsel and disciple each other one on one with the Word of God. Hearing the concerns, trials, and hurts of our hearts and applying the truth and hope of God’s word. Challenge: Do you have someone whom you have granted an “all access pass” and has the right to speak Biblical truth into your life?
  • Last and certainly not least, we study God’s word individually. We all need to have that time where we are alone, reading God’s word, praying though it, letting it press on us and submitting to it. Challenge: Are you daily reading, studying, meditating, and memorizing God’s word?

God enables us to do what He calls us to, and He has blessed us richly with His Word. As the Highlands Men’s Bible Study recently was reminded from Proverbs – “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6 ESV)
