This past Monday, we held an Informational Meeting and by God’s grace we had 14 people commit to being part of the Launch Team for Highlands Bible Church! The team is being built and it is so exciting to see the beginning of things coming together.
When we talk about a Launch Team, (besides being a really cool name to think about launching stuff), there are some general things to think about. What will this Launch Team do? Glad you asked.
First, we will grow intentional community relationships. Planting a church (“branching” as this campus plant is technically referred to as) is about relationships. Building intentional community relationships on two fronts: Internally (with each other) we meet together as a team regularly for food, coffee, fun, singing, prayer, coffee, time in God’s word, and did I mention coffee? We grow this group as more people commit to being part of the team. We also build intentional community relationships externally (with those outside our group). We start to see our existing community relationships in a new light. The guy you buy your coffee from each day that you talk football with. The girl you get your haircut from (for those with hair) that you talk about your kids with. The parents that you have sat in the bleachers watching hours of high school basketball games together. All those contacts can be grown into deeper relationships – with the ultimate goal of being able to share the hope of the gospel with them! The key word is intentionality.
Second, along with that, as we have these conversations with others it will hopefully lead to bigger questions about Jesus. Why not start a pre-launch Bible study group in your home? Go through a book/video like “Christianity Explored” or host a Ladies Bible Study? Discover who among your acquaintances is curiously seeking to learn more about God and invite them to an environment where they can do that.
Third, we will need to form the teams that will actually get stuff done. Promotions team, children’s team, set-up/tear-down teams, welcome teams, and many more! The Launch Team will all be joining together to roll up our sleeves and work together with the goal of reaching the community with the good news of the gospel of Jesus!
Ultimately, this is what the church exists for – to make known the manifold witness of God’s glory in the gospel. This is the essence of incarnational ministry – as God came to us in the form of Jesus, so we go into the world with the message of what God has done!
Additional Informational Meetings will be held soon, check out our “Events” page!
