Tell us about your family…spouse, kids, pets?
This year my wife Melanie and I will celebrate 30 years together! We have two adult children. Our son works locally as a mail carrier and our daughter is married and works as a PA. We have a pit-lab mix named Winnie who is spoiled rotten and a few chickens!

Senior Pastor
Give a brief description of what you are responsible for…
A pastor works in fulfillment of two major callings: (1) Shepherding God’s people and (2) Teaching God’s Word. I LOVE to do both of those here at Highlands and it is a JOY to serve the flock.
I also host The MikeCheck podcast to biblically equip the church to make a stronger defense of the faith by biblically checking the unbiblical.
I received a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry and a Doctor of Ministry in Christian Apologetics – both from Southern Seminary.
What do you love most about what you do at HBC?
The people…and seeing God transform us all by his Spirit working through the Word.
What is your favorite Bible verse, and why?
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. BUT GOD being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—”
Ephesians 2:1-5
I mean… “BUT GOD” says it all, doesn’t it? We had no hope, BUT GOD himself intervened to save us in his MERCY and GRACE.
How long have you been attending HBC?
All of them. We planted in January 2016, first public service was March 27, 2016.
What 3 things do you do for fun outside of HBC?
Anything involving firewood and chainsaws.
Fishing.
